Welcome to the team Olimpia! Can you tell us about your career history?
Thank you! I am very excited to be part of Pullman Bunker Bay Resort team.
After completing an Engineering Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, I decided to leave Eastern Europe and moved to Dubai in 2003. This is where I started my career in hospitality.
I joined JA Resorts & Hotels and in those six years I was part of the Corporate, MICE and finally the Leisure sales team. Following that, I was part of the opening team for the 5 star Anantara Qasr al Sarab Resort and pre-opening team for the 5 star Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach.
I then lead the Sales & Marketing team at TIME Hotels, managing 4 star hotels and serviced hotel apartments, before joining Rotana Hotels & Resorts as a Director of Business Development. I eventually moved on to join Groupon UAE as Senior Account Manager - Getaways.
I relocated to Western Australia with my husband in 2016 and have since fallen in love with the region. The schools are excellent and it is an ideal place for our son to grow up.
What originally inspired you to pursue a career in hospitality?
As a young child I used to love spending time in hotels, running around long corridors and sneaking into the back of the house areas just out of curiosity. Most of the time I would end up sharing lunch with the hotel employees - causing much distress to my parents, who were spending hours looking for me!
Who has been the most influential mentor figure for you?
I have had many role models, but one that stands out is David Thomson - now the CEO of JA Resorts & Hotels. He was a true leader and inspiration to the sales team, teaching us the valuable skill of listening carefully to your clients and to always follow up.
Can you tell us about a career highlight?
One of my team achievements was opening the 5 star Moevenpick Hotel Jumeriah Beach and reaching 100% occupancy within 8 days of opening!
As a Business Development Manager how do you work with Pullman’s conference and event organisers?
I work closely with each event planner to make sure they have all the information they need. The resort is a premium product - we deliver an excellent service and we are very proud of that. It's my job to ensure event planners have what they need in order to convey our abilities to their clients.
What do you think makes the resort and the Margaret River Region an amazing destination for conferences and events?
The resort is in a fabulous location. There is something extra special about Bunker Bay - a long, sheltered beach with pearly white sand. Many people agree that Bunker Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia’s South West.
Pullman's villa accommodation is also luxuriously appointed, the surroundings are peaceful and tranquil. Not to mention the breathtaking views and modern conference facilities!
But what really sets the resort apart is the excellent service. The team make a great effort to ensure all guests feel welcome, and I look forward to being part of this fabulous team.
What do you think sets the Margaret River Region apart from other ‘destination’ event locations?
There are so many things to see and do - from Cape Leeuwin Light House, Ngilgi Cave and so many outstanding wineries. Located 250 kilometers from Perth, the Margaret River Region is the most visited regional destination in Western Australia and recognised as one of Australia’s most biodiverse hotspots!
You’re a bit of a globetrotter - what’s your favorite holiday destination when you need some down time?
Before we moved to Western Australia, my favorite holiday destinations were the Seychelles and the Maldives, but after spending some time exploring the South West, I definitely say that this is my new favorite holiday destination.
You still get amazing beaches, but on top of that you can explore premium wineries, beautiful forests, whale watching and wildflowers during the spring/summer season - and so much more.
What makes a good Business Development Manager? What skills does the role require?
It's important to build great professional working relationships with colleagues and clients alike. But the main skills you require are persistence and follow up.
What advice would you give to anyone starting out in event sales / hospitality?
Hospitality is very rewarding as you play an integral part in creating unique guest experiences, but whatever career you pursue, make sure you are passionate and you'll be sure to suceed.
How would your friends and colleagues describe you?
You will have to ask them!
