How long have you lived in the Margaret River Region?
I moved to the area about 3 and a half years ago now from Bremer Bay with my partner and four kids. We moved here after falling in love with Busselton, attracted by it being so much closer to Perth than my hometown of Albany but still with that beautiful coastal, relaxed lifestyle.
Tell us about your career before being appointed to Wedding & Events Executive at Pullman Bunker Bay
I have been at Pullman for almost 8 months now, starting out working breakfasts with the Food & Beverage team before moving into a Conference & Events Supervisor role. Previously I’ve worked in a variety of Operational Hospitality positions but being part of a sales team is something different for me.
Why do you love working at Pullman Bunker Bay Resort... what makes it a great wedding & event venue in the Margaret River Region?
The moment I first walked in to the resort grand foyer I knew it was where I wanted to work! With a location and view to die for combined with such a passionate team it is almost impossible to have a ‘bad’ day at work.
Why are you passionate about helping couples plan their big day? What makes it rewarding for you?
For me it’s all about being a part of their journey! I love that I get to be involved in one of the most important moments in a couple’s life, ensuring that everything goes smoothly so they can relax and soak up all those amazing memories.
What is the key way in which you help couples through the process of choosing the venue and planning the day?
It has always been a natural instinct for me to plan, multi-task and prioritise. Couples can take a deep breath and relax knowing that I am here to guide them through the entire journey towards their special day! That reassuring feeling of knowing someone is taking care of all the small details is where I make a difference.
With four busy kids, a full-time job and a marathon training schedule, those organisational skills transfer over really well to real life!
How do you think couples can reduce stress during the process of planning their wedding?
Make list and keep them handy, add to them every time something pops into your head. Cross things off once you’ve addressed them so you both know what has been done. Try to delegate. I know it is hard to relinquish some of that control, but it really does help to have a strong support team who you can handover certain tasks. At the end of the day, you want to be able to relax and enjoy the planning experience as well as the big day itself.
What is the most interesting wedding day request you have received?
Probably the most recent one was a couple wondering if they could have a fire ceremony as it has very symbolic meaning in their culture. Unfortunately with their wedding being during summer the region has complete fire ban, so this request posed a distinct challenge for us! We had to come up with some alternative ideas including considering getting a special permit to have a very small contained fire pit in a certain area of the resort or have something that had the appearance of a fire so their special tradition could still be incorporated into their special day.
What did you love (or loathe!) about the recent wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?
I loved that they embraced the fusion of traditions to create a day that was truly unique and special to both Prince Harry & Meghan, that’s what all weddings should be all about.
What is your favourite thing to do during your down time?
Spending time with my kids is incredibly important to me, but my favourite thing to do is get out and go running!
I’m an Ultra-Marathon Runner, meaning I love running crazy long distances. This year I have a multi-day 177km run in the Avon Valley National Park, a 24hr track event (trying to beat last year’s distance of 180kms) and a 100 mile run along the Bibbulmun Track that I’m currently training for.
